Dick Wallrath is most known throughout Texas FFA for his continued giving to members for their education. This generosity has inspired the production of a new movie entitled “Deep in the Heart.”
Produced by Scott Duthie and Brian A. Hoffman and directed by Chris Cain, director of “Pure Country” starring George Strait. “Deep in the Heart” was filmed outside of Austin, Texas and features actors Jon Gries (“Napoleon Dynamite” [Uncle Rico], “Taken” and “September Dawn”), Val Kilmer (“Top Gun,” “Batman,” and “Tombstone”), D.B. Sweeney (“Hear No Evil,” “Fire in the Sky” and The “Cutting Edge” and “Memphis Belle”) and Elaine Hendrix (“Superstar,” “The Parent Trap” and “Romy and Michelle’s High School Reunion”) in leading roles.
With a story that both cast and crew believes will impact and relate to every soul that watches, all of those involved displayed an incredible amount of enthusiasm for “Deep in the Heart.”
“The personal part of me really wanted to be a part of something that I instinctually knew was going to be very special, having these moments to connect with youth and to share a message of overcoming odds,” Hendrix said.
“Deep in the Heart” shares Wallrath’s personal story, from the good times, to the bad.
“To me that’s what it’s about, this message and who it’s going to reach and the lives its going to touch,” Hendrix said. “This is the type of movie that will inspire people to do great things in their life.”
Hendrix and others involved spent countless hours with the Wallrath family and truly believe that their project will have a positive impact on Texas FFA.
“It’s Dick’s journey that brought him to the appreciation of the FFA,” Producer Brian A. Hoffman said. “Even though the movie isn’t about the FFA, its about a man’s journey to the FFA and how he found redemption in giving back.”
Giving back is exactly what Dick Wallrath turned his life around with. Wallrath has given a total of $1.5 million directly to the Texas FFA Foundation.
“I was involved with stock shows for a number of years,” Wallrath said. “As of now we have around 700 or 800 on my scholarships.”
Wallrath’s incredible generosity led him to become a widely known figure throughout Texas FFA. With “Deep in the Heart” Wallrath hopes his personal story will help people.
“I hope to help spouses of alcoholics, children of alcoholics and help the 4-H and FFA students with their education,” Wallrath said. “That’s a positive thing.”
Dick Wallrath and the Richard Wallrath Educational Foundation annually invest in the members of Texas FFA. Scholarships currently supported by Wallrath’s generosity include The Dina Wallrath Robertson Memorial Star Awards, Agriscience Fair Awards, Proficiency Awards and The Richard “Dick” Wallrath Academic Scholarships.
“Deep in the Heart” is in its final stages of production and its slated for a fall 2011 release.
