Yesterday morning, thousands of Texas FFA members listened closely as the 2011-2012 Texas FFA Officer candidates delivered their speeches in hopes of becoming the next president of the Texas FFA Association. However, the mood was a little different in between each speech.
The quiet and captivating atmosphere that was present during each speech was replaced with rambunctious cheers as each area proudly showed support for their candidate. They chanted creative cheers, were very energetic with a wide variety of noisemakers, and attempted to overpower the other areas.
Each of the 10 candidates’ speeches focused on what they would like to do to help FFA members across the state. Additionally, each candidate answered a thought question immediately following their speech to see how well they could formulate an on-the-spot response. Immediately following the final speech, all of the delegates had ten minutes to vote for two candidates. Members and candidates waited patiently to discover who made it to the run-off, which consists of the top four candidates: Taylor Shackelford; Area V, Peyton Gilbert; Area VI, Shelbie Thames; Area VII, and Kelli Neuman; Area IX.
The 2011-2012 officer team will officially be installed today during the Seventh General Session.
