Once again Texas has a great turnout in CDE and LDE competitions, with 23 teams advancing to the national level. The state champion of each event is eligible to compete at the national convention in Indianapolis, Ind., so the chance to advance to the highest level in the National FFA Organization is a once in a lifetime experience.
“I am completely thrilled, honored and excited to represent Texas at the national level for Ag Sales,” Orange Grove FFA member Tara Hale said. “I have grown up watching my mom, Mrs. Gina Gwosdz Hale, who is also my ag teacher, train teams and actually take six of them to nationals. I feel so honored to be a part of her seventh team,” Tara Hale, a member of the advancing Ag Sales team from the Orange Grove FFA Chapter said.
“I am really looking forward to everything about nationals,” Hale said. “I have never attended one and can’t wait to see all of the different states on the back of those blue corduroy jackets.”
Hale offered some advice to fellow FFA members on competing in the organization.
“Work hard and never give up. I know it’s corny and everyone always says that, but it’s so true. Find something you’re good at, and go for it,” Hale said. “If you’re good at judging chickens, then work hard at it and never give up until you’re that high-point individual. If you’re thing is more on the speaking side of things, then compete and get critiqued and practice until you can’t talk anymore.”
“Finding your place in the FFA is important because there is a place for everyone. You just have to try different things until you find something you are passionate about,” Hale said. “Working hard is something I’ve learned through the FFA and it’s a trait I hope to take into my adult life.”
