Taking a sip from his drink, Judson Laipply observes, “Why does bottled water have an expiration date?” The arena full of FFA members explodes in laughter.
Born and raised in Ohio, Laipply remembers attending the National Student Council Convention as a high school student and being fascinated with the motivational speakers. “I knew it was what I wanted to do,” he recalls.
Though not involved in FFA as a student, Laipply has a great respect for the organization. “The kids in FFA know what it means to work,” he explains
Laipply uses a unique blend of comedy and motivation. He believes laughter increases the ability to remember information, connecting stories about recess to change, and analogies about rides on the struggle bus. In between outrageous comedy he reminds the audience, “The world is what the world is,” He continues, “If you can’t let it go, do something about it.”
Laipply explains the importance of making choices, not excuses. “Excuses are like the Kardashians; they are everywhere, and nobody wants to listen to them.”
When the laughter dies down, Laipply scans the crowd of thousands. “If you don’t want to let it go, and you don’t want to do anything about it, shut up and go away. Today’s theme is ‘it starts with action’ you can make the perfect life for you, by the choices you make,” he concludes.
