To receive a Star Award at the state level, an FFA member must keep a record book, complete an application process and undergo an interview. Austin Crissman was awarded the American Agribusiness award, and Dakota Crissman was given the Lone Star Agribusiness award after the process was over.
The boys were no strangers to the needs of show pigs, because they have been raising pigs since they were three years old. They used their own product for quite a few years before they decided to turn it into a business. The recipe to reduce “dry and flaky” pig skin came from a man in Ohio named Rick Fogle. Fogle made a deal with the boys since he was the original creator.
If it were not for high expectations, a little help from a friend and hard work, the boys would have not become the stars they are today, along with other FFA members who received the Star Award at the 2012 Texas FFA State Convention.
