We hope that everyone is having a splendiferous holiday season! The Texas FFA Travel team had a wonderful Thanksgiving break after an 11-week stretch away from home. As great of a time as we had visiting family and eating turkey, we have been anxious to get back on the road and continuing our visits to see the great members across the Lone Star State.
The Texas FFA Travel Team has travelled more than 13,000 miles since September. In this time, we have met with 181 chapters and approximately 15,000 students across the great state of Texas. We also have come to realize a few important details. Texas is an incredibly diverse state. From the flatlands of the panhandle to the piney woods of the east and from the mesquite brush of the south to the mountains of the west, our state is very unique - as have been our experiences traveling with the FFA. We have met some outstanding people, ate some interesting food, but most of all, we have grown as individuals. We represent different worlds of agriculture and have been fortunate enough to see a wide spectrum of both traditional and nontraditional agriculture, and are astounded by just how advanced agriculture truly is.
Just as advanced as agriculture has become, the excellence of our members is simply astounding. This weekend at the Sam Houston State University State Leadership Development Event Competition, we will have the opportunity to watch and learn as some of our state's finest members compete for state titles in 12 LDE events. It is certainly an honor to become a state qualifier in the FFA, and we would like to send our congratulations to all who competed across the state.
As you are eating your Christmas ham, don't just thank the pig; thank the farmer who grew it. Remember those who have given their lives so that we might be free, and enjoy the company of friends and family. It’s the most wonderful time of the year. ‘Tis the season to deck the halls with silver bells and LDE banners. As we sing Jingle Bells around that Christmas tree, we hope that kind spirit doesn't just last for the 12 days of Christmas, because you can always bring joy to the world. Don't let the Grinch bring you down; keep rockin' around the Christmas tree, and have a Holly Jolly Christmas! We wish you a Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year!
