Last month Texas FFA members participated in the first Twitter Town Hall with the Texas Department of Agriculture (TDA) and Agriculture Commissioner Todd Staples.

This unique opportunity allowed FFA members across the state to participate in an open, online discussion with Commissioner Staples, who tweeted from the TDA’s twitter handle, @TexasDeptofAg.

Participants used the hashtag phrase #TXFFAtownhall to remain engaged in the conversation concerning TDA, FFA and agricultural advocacy.

Danbury FFA President W Hayden Lander was one of the members who contributed to the online discussion.

“This was the first kind of interaction like this that I participated in,” Lander explained. “I knew it was an opportunity that I couldn’t pass up as it was a way to directly have my questions answered.”

Members inquired about volunteer opportunities and agricultural advocacy.

“Commissioner Staples answered every question quickly and referenced many other accounts to allow us to do further research,” Lander said.

Below are a few tweets from the night’s discussion.

“@TexasDeptofAg: The future of Texas is bright with @TexasFFA members leading the way! #leadership #FFA #TXFFAtownhall”

“A3: There is nothing better than telling your personal story about your own love and passion for agriculture. #txffatownhall”

“Q4: From @whtlander to @TexasDeptofAg How can we get involved in agriculture on an international scale? #TxFFAtownhall”

“A4: @TexasFFA #volunteer for community activities such as clean up days, festivals, food banks, church, and other events. #TXFFAtownhall”
