The 85th annual Texas FFA State Convention kicked off with the First General Session Tuesday, July 9, in the Dallas Convention Center. The opening ceremonies introduced the limitless possibilities for the 8,677 members and guests present at the session.
After an honorary call to order of the state officer team and the National Anthem sung by the Texas FFA Chorus, Texas FFA State President Blake Vineyard delivered the welcome.
“You, the Texas FFA members, have to realize your limitless possibilities,” Vineyard said.
Peyton Gilbert, 2011-2012 Texas FFA State President, followed with the invocation. He stated the three important elements in life are leadership, education and agriculture.
Founder and CEO of the Dallas Convention Center and Visitors Bureau Phillip Jones addressed the members. When Jones was a FFA member, the total membership was approximately 63,000. Today the membership has reached more than 95,000 members.
The mascots for the Texas Rangers, Dallas Mavericks and Dallas Cowboys joined the National FFA mascot Flyte to entertain the crowd. With an opening ceremony worthy of praise, the 85th Texas FFA State Convention started off strong and will be full of limitless possibilities.
