Ethics and values are two things that go hand in hand with leadership, but how do they relate to the Texas FFA? Coming straight out of Soderquist training in April, the 2014-2015 Ethical Leadership Fellows stand ready to continue the commitment made by the Texas FFA Association 5 years ago to provide its members an education in ethics and values-based leadership. During training we learned several new facilitation techniques and ways to interact with you and we can’t wait to try them out. As this year’s Ethical Leadership Fellows, Tori, Jordon and I are excited for a year of service, informing you of the ethical and values-based decision making process involved with important leadership positions in your FFA chapter, districts and areas as well as everyday life.

Harry M. Kraemer, a professor from Northwestern University once said “Your leadership must be rooted in who you are and what matters most to you. When you truly know yourself and what you stand for, it is much easier to know what to do in any situation.” We often forget the importance of making ethical decisions based on our values in and out of our FFA jacket. With this quote in mind, we will strive to make a difference in the lives of the over 100 thousand amazing young leaders involved in the Texas FFA.

During my time as a Texas FFA Foundation Ambassador and team leader I had the opportunity to see how ethics and values correlate to any and every leadership position you might encounter. This is because they are the true basics of leadership and decision making. Leading is one thing, but leading ethically and doing the right thing even when nobody is watching can determine the kind of leader you are. This program offers a unique spin on ethics and values-based leadership, and see these seeds of greatness planted and watch them grow in the minds of all the people we come in contact with.

We are looking forward to having the chance to work with you. To learn more information about the program and how you can interact with the 2014 Texas FFA Ethical Leadership Fellows, check out our page on the Texas FFA website.

The Texas FFA Ethical Leadership Fellows program is funded through a generous donation by a past State FFA Officer and his wife. We thank our generous parents for their continued investment in the Texas FFA and the youth of Texas.
