Ronny Wilson, Sweeny FFA, and Melissa Loerwald, Florence FFA, both have consistently attended the Texas FFA Convention over the past decade and have experienced the event’s evolution.

Just because the two teachers have experienced mostly the same aspects of the various Texas FFA State Conventions they have attended, does not exactly mean that they both like and dislike the same things about the experiences. Depending on whether they enjoy competing in the agribusiness fair or just site seeing, both ag teachers generously give their time to students.

Wilson has attended the Convention more times than he can count, and has traveled to different locations such as Dallas, Fort Worth, Lubbock and Corpus Christi. He believes that the event has changed over the years.

Wilson believes that the opportunity to interact with other students from all across the state, the leadership qualities they gain, and the competition that occurs is extremely valuable to his students.

Loerwald, who has attended the Texas FFA State Convention for eighteen years now, believes the experience the student’s gain from meeting other members is extremely beneficial. Being able to see her students receive awards for all their hard work in either the state convention or successfully making it to state in an event, is her motivation that helps her continue.

Wilson and Loerwald have made it clear about the passion they hold for the Texas FFA Association. It’s also obvious that they enjoy seeing their students experience leadership in a different way. Their commitment to the FFA and their students is something to admire. Being an agriculture educator is not just an ordinary nine to five job, it’s a much more extraordinary career.
