Weimar FFA illustrates “Living to Serve” by giving back to their neighbors during the holiday season. Every year the chapter gets involved with the community through numerous projects and integrates service with classroom learning.

In November Weimar FFA hosts their annual coat drive at their chapter-ran community food bank, suitably titled “We Can”. This project allows members to collect and distribute coats and blankets to those in need.

December brings their annual adopt a child toy drive and caroling. This event entails a bus load of students embarking on a caroling expedition to the local retirement homes.

Members are promoting citizenship partnering with numerous organizations in their community; such as the Lions Club, Weimar Rotary and various churches.

“We pack Operation Christmas Child shoe boxes in partnership with the Calvary Baptist Church and pack food boxes with Ministerial Alliance,” said Weimar FFA advisor, Liz Treptow.

While attending the National FFA Convention in October, Weimar FFA was recognized as one of ten Model of Innovation finalist in the country. This award recognizes FFA chapters that successfully complete an annual Program of Activities which includes a series of activities designed to encourage its members to grow as individuals, to work as part of a team and to serve others.

This year the chapter continues to set an example for others by demonstrating their commitment to service-learning.
