Texas FFA members packed the convention hall as Former USDA Executive Director, Jim Bob Solsbery, shared his story of overcoming a fear of public speaking.

Solsbery suffered from a severe stutter growing up, but he didn’t let that stop him from pursuing his dreams. Attending FFA state conventions, listening to powerful keynote speakers, and participating in communication opportunities, enabled Solsbery to face his obstacles.

“Was it my stuttering holding me back, or was it me,” Solsbery wondered.

He stated that stress comes from yourself and you have to humor it. Acknowledging his stuttering problem allowed him to grow as a speaker and as an individual.

Solsberry believes we are a product of our toil and FFA members are the backbone of our economy and future. He challenged attendees to rise above for agriculture and achievement.
