There are approximately 11 teen deaths a day due to texting and driving, a fact that the 2015-2016 Daingerfield District FFA officer team is trying to change with the “I Believe in Safe Driving” pledge. The initiative aims the change young adults’ perspective on dangerous driving.

Daingerfield District and Muad FFA Chapter President, Katie Jennings, came up with the idea to spread awareness last spring after a tragic accident struck her community.

“[Students] never really discuss the dangers of cell phone use when driving,” said Jennings.

The high school junior reached out to her fellow district officers with the idea of a safe driving pledge for FFA members.  The team then began gathering facts, writing the pledge and spreading the word.

The pledge will be delivered to the 24 chapters that make up the Dangerfield District. Jennings hopes the pledge will make an impact on FFA members and her fellow classmates.

“I want them to be knowledgeable of the dangers of [distracted driving],” said Jennings.
