Members from across the state convened in Dallas, Texas to attend the first general session of the 88th Annual Texas FFA Convention on July 12, 2016. The large event is held annually to celebrate student success and conduct official Association business.

The first session featured guest speakers such as Senator Royce West, Texas Agriculture Commissioner Sid Miller, Oklahoma FFA Association officers, keynote speaker Dr. Rick Rigsby, and of course a warm welcome from our 2015-2016 state officers.

“Each year, one city decides to let over 12,000 FFA members paint their streets with blue and gold jackets,” Area V Vice President Micah Davidson said. “Once again, we have had the opportunity to come here to Dallas to make history in this arena.”

The opening session also introduced the convention theme, “Infinite”.  State officers highlighted the “Infinite” ways a FFA member can grow and succeed.

“Infinite,” State President Jason Edmondson proclaimed. “It means never ending. It means that what Texas FFA encompasses today, is derived from those who came before us. It signifies that actions within Texas FFA today will transpire into tomorrow’s results.”

The overall message that members received was one of power and encouragement. It was a testimony of the DNA that resides within every member adorning that corduroy jacket.

For some members this opening session was the beginning of a long career in FFA, for others this is another chapter. However, whether you are a member, advisor, sponsor, or guest; the opening session left an inspiring impression that kicked-off this year’s convention.

“At this convention, in these seats, and in this moment; Texas FFA, we are infinite,” Edmondson said.
