Texas FFA chapters across the state collected more than 1,400 backpacks filled with school supplies intended for abused and neglected children within Dallas, the host city of the 88th Annual Texas FFA Convention.

“The Texas FFA Association partnered with Community Partners of Dallas in order to provide local students with basic supplies to participate in class and do homework,” said 2015-2016 Texas FFA State President, Jason Edmondson. “This initiative provided Texas FFA members a way to give back and positively influence a city that welcomed us.”

The Texas FFA Backpack Initiative challenged members to bring backpacks filled with school supplies to the annual state event, July 11-15.

Texas FFA State Vice President, Micah Davidson, acknowledged members for their major role in this project.

“[The 2015-2016 state officer team] simply wanted to give back to the city of Dallas,” said Davidson. “The final result would have not been possible if it wasn’t for you, the members, rallying to serve.”

The community service effort did not go unobserved. While giving remarks on stage during the third general session Texas Education Commissioner Mike Morath praised Texas FFA members for their tremendous service efforts.

“It’s an honor to be in this room with so many eager young minds,” said Commissioner Morath.
