What is The National FFA Convention & Expo?

The National FFA Convention & Expo is a sea of blue jackets – FFA members from all corners of the nation converging in one place to celebrate their accomplishments and find inspiration for their next. The event provides attendees the opportunity to enjoy motivational keynote speakers, energetic concerts, fulfilling workshops and a sweeping Expo floor bustling with agriculture education and industry opportunities.

What is the theme for the 89th National FFA Convention & Expo?

The 2016-17 National FFA Theme is “Transform” with a tag line of “Purpose to Action.”

Why Transform? The future of agriculture is strong and as the population continues to grow, so does the need for a healthy and abundant food supply. By working together, we can transform the message of agriculture! Together, FFA members can continue to educate others on the importance of agriculture. Giving back to others and serving the community has always been important to FFA members. Throughout the year, members transform their passion for service in their community by giving back in a variety of ways – from Food For All and Living to Serve grants to National FFA Week. During the National FFA Convention & Expo, FFA members serve others by giving of their time and talents during the National Days of Service.

Who are the keynote speakers for this year's National FFA Convention?

Opening Session Keynote: Diana Nyad
At the age of 64, in her fifth and final attempt, Diana Nyad successfully fulfilled her lifelong dream of completing the 110-mile swim from Cuba to Florida on September 2, 2013. Upon completing her grueling 53-hour journey, a breathless Nyad told the world, “I have three messages. One is we should never ever give up. Two is you are never too old to chase your dreams. And three is it looks like a solitary sport, but it takes a team.” Nyad became a prominent sports broadcaster, filing compelling reports for NPR, ABC’s Wide World of Sports, Fox Sports, and The New York Times. She has written three books and speaks French and Spanish fluently. Nyad has also earned the reputation of a uniquely passionate and entertaining public speaker, earning standing ovations with a broad spectrum of audiences.

Session 4 – Oct. 21: Jason Brown
Jason Brown is a native of Henderson, N.C. and studied interpersonal communications at the University of North Carolina- Chapel Hill while on an athletic scholarship. Upon graduation in 2005 he was selected in the fourth round of the NFL draft by the Baltimore Ravens. As a free agent in 2009, Jason signed a five-year contract with the St. Louis Rams, but was released in 2012. Although he had offers from other NFL teams, he decided to walk away from the NFL, and he moved back to North Carolina where he purchased a 1,000-acre farm. In 2014, Brown’s farm yielded 120,000 pounds of sweet potatoes, which were given to food pantries and churches throughout the Triangle area in North Carolina. Brown has also founded a Christian ministry, “Wisdom for Life.”

Session 7 – Oct. 21: Colin Ryan

Colin Ryan is a financial expert and author with the background of a professional comedian and storyteller.

He uses humanizing honesty, powerful storytelling, hilarious pop culture touchstones and inspirational messages to transform the dry subject of personal finance into an interactive conversations around one core idea: your ability to manage your money directly affects your ability to have the life you want. Recently, Ryan was named one of the top 10 youth presenters in the nation and has spoken to more than 200,000 students and adults across North America.

What is National Days of Service?

The National FFA Organization embraces the idea of giving back to our communities. The last line of the FFA motto "Living to Serve", signifies the vital role service plays in our organization. Each year, proud FFA members from across the nation volunteer as part of National Days of Service at the National FFA Convention & Expo.

In Indianapolis, FFA members will make a difference at 11 sites around the city. This volunteer experience always fills up fast, so be sure to get on the list right away when convention registration opens in August.
