Texas FFA chapters collected more than 1000 backpacks filled with school supplies intended for homeless children within Corpus Christi, the host city of the 89th Annual Texas FFA Convention.

Texas FFA partnered with Corpus Christi Independent School District’s Homeless Education Service in order to provide local students with basic supplies to participate in class and do homework.

“CCISD has a homeless program that assists 1,700 students,” said Susana Majors, CCISD representative. “Thanks to Texas FFA’s donation, we will be able to provide these students with backpacks and school supplies.

Contributions were made by chapters from all over the state. As a result, Texas FFA will impact many children’s lives.

“This is not a hand down, but a hand up,” Majors said. “The donation of school supplies and backpacks will help them study and keep them in school.”

Texas FFA State Vice President, John Smithwick, acknowledged members for their major role in this project.

“The final result would not have been possible if it wasn’t for you, the members, rallying to serve fellow citizens in need,” Smithwick said.
