The talent team trio from the Cy-Fair FFA chapter walked into the 89th Annual Texas FFA Convention proudly representing Area III. The trio consisting of Aeriona Runnels, Quincy Peart and Jaden Washington surprised the audience with a set dance routine to a remix of country songs and the FFA Creed.

“At our school we dance step, so [our ag teachers] came to us and said we needed to try out for the talent competition,” said Washington.

Their openness to trying something unseen and the creativity illustrated in their performance advanced them to the state level.

The choreography and original music allowed for a unique experience. Peart took it upon himself to create a remix of popular country songs to serve as the background music during the performance. In addition, the group saw fit to include elements crucial to the FFA organization.

“We know how important the creed is for the FFA so we felt like if we included it, it would bring everyone together,” said Runnels.

It is a rare occurrence to see such diversity within the Texas FFA Talent Competition. In the past, the audience usually views a mix of country singers and epic guitar players. However, this group not only dances, but also specializes in an uncommon genre.

“I’ve heard that a lot of people don’t know what step is, so I think that they’re going to be shocked,” said Runnels.

Although the team did not win the popular vote, the convention center was enraptured with the performance by the trio.

“We hope for the best and for everybody to enjoy the show but we know everybody is not going to be entertained and that’s something we have to deal with as performers,” said Washington.
