The Delo Tractor Restoration Competition was established in 1995 to recognize and reward the creativity, technical aptitude and business knowledge of high school-aged students from around the country.

Texas FFA members have consistently experienced success through this unique contest. This year is no exception, with six out of the 12 finalists being from the Lone Star state.

The 2017 Texas finalists include:
Austin Reynolds, Ira FFA, 1969 John Deere 4020
Corey Verstraeten, Southwest High School FFA, 1972 Oliver 1755
Mack Blair, Dubiski High School FFA, 1973 International Harvester 666
Marcus Wagner and Cameron Coyle, Dubiski High School FFA, 1958 John Deere 420V
Matthew Machicek, Rogers FFA, 1956 Minneapolis-Moline 335
Ryder Merta, El Campo FFA, 1955 Farmall 200

Transforming a pile of rusty parts into an award-winning, restored tractor is a big challenge.  A panel of expert judges narrowed the initial round of entries based on the quality of the restoration effort, documentation, safety precautions and the oral presentation.

“The success of the program is reflected in the number of returning finalists this year,” said Dan Holdmeyer, Industrial and Coolants Brand Manager, Chevron Products Company.

All selected finalists will compete at the National Finals Competition, held in conjunction with the National FFA Convention. Students will present to a panel of five seasoned tractor restoration experts.  The project will be graded on the restoration process, safety precautions, results, documentation and their oral presentation.

The Grand Champion will be awarded $10,000, the Reserve Champion will be awarded $5,000 and third place Champion will be awarded $3,000.

Winners will be announced at an awards ceremony held on the last day of the convention.
